That a team out to play against Barça using as weapons the speed, depth and thrust may be something we have seen many times, but if in addition this team has so many players Arsenal quality is to be expected much more dangerous fight than we have custom free.
Arsenal took to the field biting pressure and moving the ball with speed and deadly accuracy, although it is fair to say that his only chance was a shot clear of Van Persie after the magical pass from Cesc. However, as often happens also in almost all instances, the club finally settled on the field and began to pressure tactics, steal and stun an opponent with short passes and his first touch. Thus came the first major opportunity to Messi and not long after Villa's goal.
A dream location, not only we won 0-1 in the attacking (A result that would have remained virtually secured the tie) but also the team was dancing to the Gunners and for the rest of the first part the second goal seemed a matter of time (and indeed it was but the referee decided not to whistle penalty and set aside a legal goal, all on the same play).
Anyway there was nothing to foreshadow the rest of what would happen next. What happened?, Because the team had a downturn quite pronounced in physical and attitude, something we had already seen (albeit with a bulkier marker for us which made it more excusable), as if it were a collective body unique human with the capacity for self dosage. It must be said that Arsenal never gave up and went looking for with momentum cut difference was as good as ever moving the ball but on reaching the danger zone boasted a surprising harmlessness. But the club seemed to have dropped their arms excessively, usually electric Pedro seemed overwhelmed by the significance of the meeting, put his goal after Villa had evaporated, Iniesta was doing one of the weakest games you remember.
But what I found most hurtful was the fact that Messi, in a move that once again could have killed the game, did not think the group but he same. All strikers are selfish, but the Argentine chose the worst way to be, to seek personal glory with a three to zero for and playing against Levante may be excusable, in the Champions League can be a tragedy. Perhaps we have come to realize how much they can affect so many compliments to a boy only 23 years, gave the impression that what you had in mind at the time was breaking its spell on British lands leaving the double confrontation resolved.
Yet again the result did not look threatening until it was time that may have been decisive. I mean that in the Pep decided to remove and put Villa Keita, is possibly the first time in three years that I see the mister to make a conservative change, a change that maybe the party did not need at all, if you wanted to strengthen the midfield could have opted to replace some of the very influential Iniesta Keita or Mascherano. But removing a front (especially when the two were in the field were not having their night) for a player so, once again, irrelevant as Keita was losing depth, pressure and subject to change anything.
Anyway we must recognize that the goal was a disgrace, a long time since we saw singing Valdés and the truth is he had to do in the worst possible time, five minutes full bafflement was the second of Arsenal (who was born in probably the only quality Nasri played the entire game). Excessively harsh punishment but also a warning for a team that ultimately is determined to put its best face for only the second (or first) 45 minutes.
It was a shame, to see us practically in the quarter we spent a not bad result (the killer could have been 3-1) but requires no let up in the back. You must not forget the naysayers that after Saturday's draw, are already talking about crisis, end of stroke and other trifles. I hope we can, once again, turn off peak.
